New Sports Media Company Launches in Knoxville: Rocky Top Insider
KNOXVILLE, TENN. ̶ July 10, 2014 ̶ Tennessee fans can’t get enough information about Big Orange sports. Whether it’s football, basketball or recruiting, there is a voracious appetite for Vol news. Sports fans often feel like they have so much information scattered across their cell phone, television, tablet, radio, newspaper and computer that they don’t know where to begin.
A new media outlet ̶ Rocky Top Insider (www.RockyTopInsider.com) ̶ is launching today in Knoxville that promises to be the one-stop-shop for all things related to the Tennessee Volunteers. Rocky Top Insider features original written, audio and video news content exclusively focused on the Tennessee Volunteers. The company goes “live” online this afternoon.
According to John Osborne of RTI Enterprises and co-founder of Rocky Top Insider, the purpose of Rocky Top Insider is to cut through the clutter for Vol fans and provide a centralized digital clearinghouse for Big Orange news.
Osborne said, “Vol fans want the expertly crafted news they’re looking for whenever they want it, wherever they want it, on whatever device they have in front of them at the moment.
“It’s 2014 ̶ there’s absolutely no reason to define a media source by ‘print’ or ‘video’ or ‘web.’ The media wants to define itself in categories while the consumer recognizes that all of those things are merely channels to deliver information.
“Rocky Top Insider will utilize any and all delivery methods ̶ video, written, audio, web, photography, social media, and anything else that comes along ̶ that we can use to deliver timely, accurate, engaging information and entertainment to Tennessee sports fans.”
Rocky Top Insider is also the new home to some already-established Vol sports journalists. Reed Carringer of Football Time in Tennessee and Basketball Time in Tennessee magazines will provide coverage as will popular radio personality Houston Kress (who was recently voted Champion of the Tennessee Sports Media Bracket) and Daniel Lewis of Nooga.com. Other established sports journalists will provide regular stories as well.
According to Osborne, social media will play a big role at Rocky Top Insider with active Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts to provide fans with real-time information about Volunteer athletics and create a sense of community for followers. Osborne said, “Media is about delivering information and communicating with people. The way people communicate now is through social media, and that will be a big part of what we do at Rocky Top Insider.”
Rocky Top Insider, which is funded by local investors through RTI Enterprises, is currently in the process of building a digital studio in Blount County that will allow the company to create timely audio, video and digital coverage for their followers.
Rocky Top Insider can be found at www.RockyTopInsider.com and is free to access. The new website will be active today and a team from Rocky Top Insider will provide nonstop coverage from SEC Media Days in Birmingham, AL beginning Monday, July 14.
