Josh Heupel met with the media Monday afternoon for his usual Monday press conference. While Heupel’s Monday press conference usually kicks off game week, it comes in the middle of Tennessee’s game week as the Vols prepare for Thursday night’s season opener against Ball State.
“It’s game week, man. Let’s go play ball,” Heupel said to open his presser. “Excited to get inside Neyland Stadium. Obviously, long training camp here with our players. We’re at the point where it is time to go play and find out where we’re at.”

Heupel discussed Bru McCoy being ruled immediately eligible by the NCAA and what the USC transfer receiver brings to Tennessee’s offense.
“Certainly a small sense of relief,” Heupel said. “More than anything, just excitement. When I got the news, man, it sent chills down my spine. So excited for him. A young man that’s done it the right way since he’s been here. Has gone through a long windy journey to get to this point. Now he has an opportunity to move forward with his future and go compete with his teammates.”
The second-year head coach also discussed the ongoing battle at left tackle, the difference entering his second season compared to his first, the benefits of opening the season on Thursday night and more.
