Tennessee Defensive Lineman Target Sets All SEC Top Four

The Tennessee Volunteers and head coach Josh Heupel look to be one step closer to landing class of 2023 defensive lineman Tyree Weathersby.

On Monday afternoon, the 6-foot-4, 251-pound defensive lineman announced a Top 4 consisting of four SEC teams, three of which are in the SEC East. Weathersby’s Top 4 includes Kentucky, Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The last two weeks have been fairly busy for the native of Douglasville, Georgia, which has included trips to both Tennessee and South Carolina. Weathersby attended a South Carolina camp on June 16, which was followed by a scholarship offer from head coach Shane Beamer that very same day. Weathersby then took an official visit to Tennessee one week later on June 24. Tennessee and head coach Josh Heupel hosted quite a few talented recruits last weekend and even came away with two total commitments to the 2023 class on Saturday and Sunday.

The Vols are hoping that the momentum of the weekend helps motivate Tyree Weathersby into choosing Tennessee.

According to On3 Sports’ Recruiting Prediction Machine, Tennessee is currently the overwhelming favorite to land Weathersby at 98.5 percent. Combine that with two Crystal Ball projections from 247 Sports Tennessee insider Ryan Callahan and 247 Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong and it certainly seems like the Vols are in the driver’s seat.

Weathersby has yet to receive a star ranking from any of the major recruiting publications despite being in the class of 2023. However, according to GoVols247’s Ryan Callahan, Weathersby just has “yet to be rated” by the services.

Tyree Weathersby currently plays his high school ball for New Manchester High School in Douglasville, Georgia. Even without a star rating, Weathersby has still impressed enough to receive 21 scholarship offers, including Pittsburgh and Missouri.

Weathersby has yet to announce when he will be officially making his collegiate commitment.
