The Vols’ Story So Far

Because they advanced to the CWS last year, the Vols were always expected to be a strong team this season. They solidified those expectations early in the year with a 24-game winning streak that vaulted them to the No. 1 national ranking.

Instead of relinquishing that ranking, Tennessee solidified it and then some with powerful pitching and explosive hitting. Many teams are great in one or two aspects of the game, but Tennessee is a rare squad that crushes in virtually all aspects.

Entering the NCAA Tournament, the Vols ranked first in the nation in ERA, WHIP, home runs per game, and slugging percentage. It is virtually impossible for opponents to match Tennessee strength for strength.

It’s why Tennessee for months has been a prohibitive favorite to win the CWS title. The Vols got their taste of the sport’s biggest stage last year when they went 0-2 in Omaha. This year they’ll only be satisfied if they win the championship.
