Tennessee right-handed pitcher Chase Dollander will start for the Vols in their second game of the SEC Tournament.
“Yes. He will start for us,” Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello said of Dollander Thursday night.
The Vols are in the winner’s bracket of their side of the SEC Tournament after dominating instate rival Vanderbilt, 10-1, Thursday night at the Hoover Met. Tennessee will face LSU at approximately 9 p.m. ET Friday night.
Tennessee hasn’t faced LSU since knocking off the Tigers in the Knoxville Super Regional last season. The Vols beat LSU all five times the teams faced last season, but the Tigers are back near the top of the SEC under first year head coach Jay Johnson.
Dollander earned SEC Pitcher of the Year honors despite missing two weeks during the regular season with a right arm injury. The Georgia Southern transfer dominated in his first year in the SEC, posting an 8-0 record, 2.33 ERA and 0.70 WHIP.
The sophomore right-hander was even better against SEC opponents, posting a 1.67 ERA and 0.58 WHIP in conference games.
Dollander is coming off his best start of the season, holding Mississippi State scoreless and hitless in six innings of work.
