Tennessee has officially made the cut for two separate four-star linemen in the 2023 class this week. Both announcements occurred on Sunday.
First up is four-star offensive lineman Ian Reed from Austin, Texas. On Sunday night, Reed announced a Top 10 featuring Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Tennessee, Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M.
“Thank you to the all of the coaches that have been recruiting me,” Reed said in a Twitter post. “Each and every offer was a blessing to me and my family, I am announcing my 2nd phase of my recruitment moving forward.”

Vol Recruiting: Four-Star Lineman Sets Official Visit To Tennessee
According to 247 Sports’ composite rankings, Reed is listed as the No. 25 player at his position and the No. 57 overall player from the state of Texas.
The early thought is that the 6-foot-6, 290-pound Vandegrift High School lineman could likely wind up staying right at home in Austin and joining the Longhorns’ football team. According to On3 Sports’ Recruiting Prediction Machine, Texas is currently leading the way for Reed’s services at 91.8 percent. While it does look to be a long shot for Tennessee to land Reed, anything could still happen in the world of college football. Tennessee is building a strong recruiting class that currently ranks No. 7 in the nation led by QB Nico Iamaleava, edge rusher Caleb Herring, tight end Ethan Davis, and safety Sylvester Smith.
In addition to Reed, Tennessee also made the cut for a talented defensive lineman on Sunday, except on the other side of the country this time.
Sydir Mitchell, a four-star according to 247 Sports composite, recently posted a new top nine list on Sunday afternoon. The Oradell, New Jersey native’s list includes Texas, Texas A&M, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Rutgers, Miami, LSU, and Auburn. Interestingly enough, the recruit from New Jersey has more SEC schools listed than the Austin, Texas native.
I would like to thank all the coaches that have extended scholarship offers to me. All are blessings and I am appreciative. With that being said these are the 9 schools that my family and I will focus on. #HookEm #GigEm #GoDawgs #GBO #BBN #CHOP #GoCanes #GeauxTigers #WarEagle pic.twitter.com/i99U3bpg5B

“Ideal size and length for defensive tackle,” 247 Sports National Recruiting Analyst Brian Dohn said about Mitchell. “Works hands well and understands leverage. Possesses natural strength. Traits exist to be a run stopper in middle. Plays with low center of gravity. Strong and has natural power. Gets off well at line of scrimmage. Shows an ability to stack and shed. Manipulates torso to through gaps. Will benefit greatly as he matures and adds lower body strength. Saw varsity action at high-level North Jersey program.”
The 6-foot-5, 335-pound defensive lineman has already collected 19 scholarship offers, but as he wrote on Sunday, that list has been officially trimmed down to nine.
According to 247 Sports composite rankings, Mitchell lists as the No. 32 player at his position and the third-ranked player from the state of New Jersey in the class of 2023.
Similar to Reed, though, it looks like Tennessee still has some ground to make up even though they did make the first cut. According to On3, it looks as though Rutgers, Michigan, and Texas A&M are the slight frontrunners here in the middle stages of Mitchell’s recruitment.
