Central Florida receiver Jaylon Robinson announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal on Wednesday afternoon.
Robinson has one year of eligibility remaining having spent four seasons in college. The 5-foot-9 receiver started his career at Oklahoma before playing a limited role as a freshman before transferring to UCF.
The Fort Worth, Texas native sat out his sophomore season following his transfer before becoming a star under Heupel in 2020.
In the 10-game COVID-19 shortened season, Robinson was the Knights No.2 receiver hauling in 55 catches for 979 yards and six touchdowns. The short receiver earned All-AAC honors in 2020 and looked poised to do it again without Heupel in 2021.
However, injuries derailed the redshirt-junior’s season. A knee injury sidelined Robinson for six games in 2021 and his production severely dropped following the injury.
The Texas native hauled in 12 catches for 234 yards and three touchdowns in three games before his injury before catching six passes for 88 yards in three games after returning.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Robinson admitted that “I came back I feel like I didn’t help the team as much as I should’ve or could’ve.”
Robinson looked more like his 2020 self in UCF’s 2022 spring game, catching three passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns.
Tennessee’s coaching staff was happy with the development of its receiver’s group — especially Jalin Hyatt — in spring practice but could look to add more playmakers on the edge in the transfer portal.
The Vols lost two of their top receivers from last season — Velus Jones Jr. and JaVonta Payton — and have been active in the transfer portal looking for receivers.
Wyoming transfer Isaiah Neyor committed to Tennessee in December before changing his mind and enrolling at Texas in January. The Vols also hosted USC transfer Bru McCoy for a visit last month.
