Four-star safety Sylvester Smith will announce his college commitment on April 26, the Alabama native announced Tuesday evening.

The Mumford High School standout ranks as the nation’s 172nd best player and 10th best safety according to the On3 consensus rankings.
Smith hasn’t frequently taken visits since the NCAA lifted its on campus COVID-19 visit restrictions in June. The 5-foot-11, 192 pound defensive back visited UCF and Florida State last summer and visited Auburn for its season opener against Akron.
The near-consensus four-star, Smith didn’t visit Knoxville during the season. However, Smith has made just two visits in 2022 and they were both to Knoxville.
Those visits, in part, have led to Tennessee gaining traction in Smith’s recruitment. The Vols have earned a handful of predictions for the talented safety on a number of recruiting services.
Tennessee currently holds six commits in its 2023 recruiting class, but recent commit Nathan Robinson and safety Jack Lutrell are the Vols’ only commits on the defensive side of the ball.
Josh Heupel’s second full recruiting class at Tennessee currently ranks as the nation’s 13th best according to the On3 team rankings. 247sports is much higher on the foundations of Tennessee’s recruiting class, pegging them currently as the nation’s No. 9 class.
