How Tennessee is Using Peyton Manning and Nico Iamaleava to Recruit

Tennessee target and four-star running back Treyaun Webb showed off a new graphic on Tuesday afternoon as his commitment announcement reportedly draws near. But the graphic that Webb posted on Tuesday shows a good look into how Tennessee is using its past and future to recruit.

Shown in the graphic that was created by Tennessee’s team is a picture of Peyton Manning and Jamal Lewis with the caption “Duo of the Past”. Right under that is a picture of Tennessee commit Nico Iamaleava and Treyaun Webb with the caption “The Duo of the Future”.

Webb posted the picture to Twitter with the caption, “History repeats itself,” with a mind-blown emoji.

With the commitment of five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava, projections can be made about his contributions in the future, but there’s no question that his biggest immediate impact is in the recruiting world. As the third-ranked quarterback in the class, Iamaleava is a magnet for talented prospects across the country. Tennessee is hoping that includes Carnell Tate, Rico Walker, Kyler Kasper, and Treyaun Webb to name a few.

The early nature of Iamaleava’s commitment last month gives Tennessee a tremendous opportunity to use that momentum for recruiting over the next seven months. And based on the graphic that Webb posted on Tuesday, that’s exactly what Tennessee is doing.

Using a legend like Peyton Manning to promote its historical presence and combining that with the high-profile aspect of the future in Nico Iamaleava is a brilliant move in the recruiting world from Tennessee. But it’s also a no-brainer.

Even though Manning’s playing days are in the rear-view mirror, the Hall of Fame quarterback is still all over sports pop culture with the Monday Night ManningCast and other entertainment-related events. Manning is still in the top tier of representatives for Tennessee’s football program and one of the marquee names in the sports world, so using his name is nothing but beneficial when talking to recruits.

Although Webb’s graphic is only a small glimpse into what Tennessee is using on the recruiting trail, it is a good look into how the Vols are using its stars of yesterday and stars of tomorrow to recruit players this year.
