After years of hurt, Burrow wants to lead Bengals to the promised land
Former Tennessee assistant coach Joe Osovet is the newest head coach at Blount County’s Heritage High School, the school announced Wednesday.

Osovet joined Jeremy Pruitt’s inaugural staff in an off field coaching position, serving as Director of Player Development in 2018 and Director of Football programming in 2019.
After two years as one of Tennessee’s main off the field staffers, Pruitt promoted Osovet to tight ends coach in 2020 after moving then-tight ends coach Brian Niedermeyer to linebacker coach.
The 49-year old was ousted with the rest of Pruitt’s staff in January of 2021 due to Tennessee’s internal investigation into illegal recruiting actions. While Tennessee fired Osovet in the scandal, the New York native wasn’t specifically tied to any of the violations.
After taking a year off of coaching, Osovet is ready to hop back in the coaching ranks at the high school level for the first time in at least 26 years.
The majority of Osovet’s coaching career has come in the junior college ranks both as an assistant and head coach.
Ossovet spent two years — plus three games as the interim — as the head coach at Nassau (N.Y.) Community College, before spending three seasons at ASA College (N.Y.). Osovet posted a 33-11 record as a junior college head coach and won the USA Sports Writer JUCO Coach of the Year Award in 2014.
An offensive minded coach, Osovet’s ASA College team’s tallied 41.9 points per game while pioneering the read-pass option.
Heritage football has struggled in recent years, posting a 6-46 record over the last five seasons. Playing in TSAA 6A classification, Heritage faces Tennessee high school football powerhouse and Blount County rival Maryville every year.
