Five-Star Prospect Announces Upcoming Tennessee Visit

One of the most elite kicking prospects in the country has announced an upcoming visit to Tennessee. Knoxville Catholic kicker/punter Brock Taylor, from the class of 2023, will be on Tennessee’s campus this upcoming weekend according to a post on Twitter.

Taylor is the second-ranked kicking prospect in the nation and the 33rd-ranked punting prospect in the nation according to Kohl’s kicking rankings. In addition, Kohl’s has Taylor as a five-star kicking prospect and a 4.5-star punting prospect.

While often overlooked, the kicking game is one of the most important aspects of the game of football. Just look back at last weekend’s NFL playoff round as three of the four games were won on a field goal. Not to mention, Tennessee’s Music City Bowl dreams were taken away by a game-winning Purdue field goal. All across the sport are examples of the kicking game’s importance.

“Arguably the best field goal kicker in his class, he is an advanced prospect that will be at the top of many power 5 schools scholarship lists,” listed Taylor’s Kohl’s scouting report. “Taylor had another strong showing at the 2021 Southern Spring Showcase. He tied for the camp field goal championship against over 270 other campers. Taylor handled the pressure very well. His improvement in leg speed was noticeable from last year.”

According to Kohl’s, Taylor was perfect on extra points during this 2021 season, going 35-for-35. In addition, Taylor hit 6-of-7 field goal attempts throughout the year.

Currently, Kohl’s only lists Tennessee Tech as an offer for Taylor. However, it is early in his recruitment, so many more offers will likely be coming in shortly.

Tennessee kicker Chase McGrath, who transferred in the last off-season from USC, finished tied for the No. 65 ranking among all collegiate kickers last year. McGrath was solid for the Vols in 2021, hitting 12 of his 16 field goal attempts over the course of 13 games, which was good for 75 percent.

Just recently, Taylor was a participant in the Kohl’s 2022 National Underclassman Challenge. At the competition, Brock Taylor finished second among all contestants.
