Tennessee bounced back from a poor performance in its win over Tennessee Tech with a dominant 86-44 victory over Presbyterian Tuesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena.
The Blue Hose took a 10-8 lead just over five minutes into the game and from there Tennessee dominant. The Vols opened up a lead with a 15-0 run before taking a 24-point lead at the break.
Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes was pleased with his teams effort and preparation for the game after being upset with those factors leading into the Tennessee Tech game.
The Vols got strong performances from their wings Tuesday. With Josiah Jordan James out with a torn ligament in his finger, Justin Powell and Victor Bailey Jr. were thrust into bigger roles.
The duo shined as Bailey scored 14 points on four-of-eight shooting from three-point range while Powell tied a game high 15 points on five-of-five shooting from three-point range.
Barnes discussed the strong play from the duo as well as Powell’s growth as a defender in the past weeks.
The seventh-year head coach also discussed the play of his reserve freshmen, the upcoming challenge against Colorado and how Kennedy Chandler is improving his defense.
Here everything Barnes had to say below.
