Titans vs. Texans Betting Odds And Analysis

On Sunday, the last-place Houston Texans will be visiting the AFC South-leading Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. The game is part of the early slate of NFL games and kicks off at Noon, CT.

With a record of 1-8, the Texans are arguably over-matched against the 8-2 Tennessee Titans, however, oddsmakers have this game closer than you might expect.

Texans vs. Titans Betting Odds

The Titans opened up as -10 point favorites at home versus the Texans, and the line hasn’t moved at several sportsbooks. BetMGM has shown some line movement with the Titans favored by 10.5 points. Nevertheless, the spread is relatively close considering how vastly different these two teams are.

The total has also remained consistent at 44.5 across most sportsbooks including BetMGM, DraftKings, and FanDuel.

Texans Vs. Titans Betting Preview

As mentioned earlier, the oddsmakers have the point spread relatively close considering the Houston Texans struggle to put up points. In fact, they rank last in the NFL with 14.2 points per game. The Titans, on the other hand, rank fifth with 27.8 points per game.

The Titans are tied for the best record in the NFL and should have no problem handling the Texans at home but the main question is can they cover the -10 spread.

Earlier in the season, they were upset by the lowly New York Jets 27-24 in overtime so they have shown the ability to overlook opponents. But their overall body of work this season shouldn’t be forgotten. Since losing to the Jets they have won six straight and are looking for number seven against the Texans.

The Texans, of course, have seemingly been on a mission to tank this year amidst the Deshaun Watson controversy. Watson has still yet to play a game this season. In addition to Watson not playing, there is a lack of talent on offense, but the defense has been respectable — ranking No. 17 in Defense-adjusted Value Over Average (DVOA).

One bright spot for Houston is that it will be starting QB Tyrod Taylor this week for the second straight week after his return from injury. They are hoping he can provide an offensive spark and keep the game within striking distance, perhaps why the spread is 10 points.

Betting Trends

  • The Titans are 7-3 against the spread (ATS) this season.
  • The Titans are 4-0 ATS against their last four AFC South opponents.
  • The Texans are 4-5 ATS this season.
  • The Texans are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games.
  • The Under is 4-0 in the Texans’ last four road games.

The Pick

Tennessee as a 10-point favorite at home is too good to pass up. The Texans’ offense is extremely poor. They not only struggle to put up points, but they also average just 280.1 yards from scrimmage.

Look for the Titans to keep things rolling into the second half of the season despite key injuries at running back (Henry) and wide receiver (Jones). Tennessee has the better quarterback in Ryan Tannehill, who is playing efficient football this year (No. 8 in QBR at 60.1) and does an excellent job managing the game.
