Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel met with the local media Wednesday. The Vols are halfway through their bye week as they prepare for a matchup with Kentucky.
Heupel said his team has done good-on-good work this week while also beginning preparation for next week’s matchup with a top-15 Kentucky team.
The Wildcats have had a strong season in head coach Mark Stoops’ ninth year in Lexington. Kentucky is 6-1 on the season with its only loss coming against No. 1 Georgia.
Tennessee has had success against good Kentucky teams in the past and while the Wildcats are having a great season, they haven’t been flawless and their passing attack is still limited. That should help a Tennessee defense that struggles against the pass but forces an abundance of tackles for loss.
Tennessee’s offense has found its identity under transfer quarterback Hendon Hooker— a Davey O’Brien candidate— who is looking to finish the 2021 season strong.
Heupel discussed his team, the importance of getting healthy, how he keeps younger players involved while they aren’t earning playing time, how recruiting has changed since the start of the season and more.
