Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker has led the Vols’ offense on the field since the Tennessee Tech game in the third week. However, after Week 5, Hooker is being recognized for his performance against Missouri.
On Monday, Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker was named a Manning Award Star of the Week by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Eight college football players are named each week as the Stars of the Week, which then turns over to a voting system on Facebook. However, due to Facebook’s server issue’s on Oct. 4, there is no current update on the poll at the time of this publication. Although, the voting does last until this Thursday. Once the poll has been completed, the winner will be crowned the “Manning Quarterback of the Week”.
One way or another, Hooker was deserving of a spot after a remarkable game against Missouri. Hooker was 15-of-19 for 225 yards and even threw in three touchdowns through the air. Additionally, Hooker had 80 yards and a touchdown on the ground in just 15 attempts.
On the season as a whole, though, Hooker has 838 total yards through the air, with improvement each week. Hooker had 188 yards against Pittsburgh, followed by 199 yards against Tennessee Tech. Then, Hooker threw for 221 yards against Florida and 225 yards against Missouri.
Not to mention, Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker has not thrown an interception since the second week of the season.
Hooker’s longest passing touchdown of the season came against Florida when he connected with JaVonta Payton on a 75-yard touchdown.
On Monday morning, during Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel’s week six press conference, Heupel spoke about Hooker, who is listed as the top quarterback on the depth chart for the first time this year.
“Hendon [Hooker] will be the No. 1 [QB] this week, yes,” Heupel said on Monday.
Tennessee (3-2, 1-1 SEC) will return to Neyland Stadium when they host South Carolina (3-2, 0-2 SEC) in their third straight SEC East matchup this Saturday. The ESPN2 broadcast will be at noon ET.
