Former Tennessee basketball player Admiral Schofield recently shared some of the wisdom he has accumulated at the 20th annual Champions Dinner through the Boys and Girls Club of America.
“It takes high character to be successful,” Schofield said at the dinner, according to WJHL. “If you want to be a leader you have to be a great follower and a great listener.”
The dinner took place on Thursday at First Baptist Church in Greeneville. During it, Schofield shared many of the lessons he learned while enrolled at Tennessee and in the NBA.
“The biggest thing when you’re younger is to work on your mental aspect your mindset and whatever you put your mind to you can achieve, and just really accepting the things that come with life but also never backing down from its challenges,” Schofield said to the Boys and Girls Club members.
Schofield played for coach Rick Barnes while at Tennessee from 2015-2019. During his time in Knoxville, Schofield was one of the most beloved Tennessee athletes on campus.
The former Vol averaged 16.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game during his career at Tennessee.
Admiral Schofield racked up a number of awards during his time at Tennessee, as well. He was named second-team All-SEC in 2018 and followed that with a first-team All-SEC selection in 2019.
Schofield was also an AP Honorable Mention All-American in 2019.
After his time at Tennessee concluded, Schofield entered the NBA Draft. Schofield was selected with the 42nd pick in the second round by the Philadelphia 76ers. However, he was immediately traded to the Washington Wizards.
Schofield originally signed a three-year deal with the Wizards after he was drafted. Schofield even became a social media spokesperson for Hulu at one point.
