No current Tennessee baseball players were drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft Sunday night, but shortstop signee Brady House was drafted No. 11 by the Washington Nationals.
House, the nation’s top prep prospect, wasn’t expected to make it to Knoxville and he won’t, telling The Athletic’s Maria Torres that he plans to sign with Washington.
Rounds two through 10 of the MLB Draft will begin Monday at 1 p.m. ET. It’s set to be a busy day for Tennessee baseball as a plethora of current Vols are likely to get drafted, as are a number of Tennessee signees.
Max Ferguson could be the first current Vol off the board due to his elite fielding and added power. The Florida native hit .253 with 12 home runs and 46 RBIs.
Beech High School standout Chase Burns is likely to be the first Vol signee to be drafted today. While the hard throwing right hander was included in our “likely bound for professional baseball” the further Burns falls the more likely he is to make it to Knoxville in the fall.
