The U19 Team USA squad had their third group phase game in the FIBA Basketball World Cup on Tuesday and future Tennessee basketball player Kennedy Chandler continued his strong play in the American’s win against Australia.
Chandler scored 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting in Team USA’s 87-66 win over Australia.
The future Volunteer guard shot 2-of-4 from inside of the arc and 2-of-3 from three-point range. Chandler also tallied one rebound and three assists in just over 16 minutes of play.
Through the first three games of the international tournament, Chandler has ended up one of the main scoring threats for Team USA after he got out to a slow start in game one.
Chandler is averaging 8.7 points per game in the tournament so far, which is the fourth-highest average on Team USA despite Chandler not being a starter for any of the three contests.
In addition to his ranking on the team, Chandler is also tied for No. 45 in all tournament players’ PPG averages through three games.
Prior to his performance against Australia, Chandler scored five points in the American’s opening win against Turkey. He then scored 11 points in a bounce-back performance against Mali where he led all players in field goal percentage.
Kennedy Chandler will make his highly anticipated debut for Tennessee and coach Rick Barnes during the 2021 season. The former five-star prospect and top-ranked point guard committed to Tennessee in August of 2020 and helped the Vols achieve the top-ranked class in the SEC.
Chandler and the Tennessee basketball team will begin their season at home against UT Martin on Tuesday, Nov. 9.
The Memphis, TN native will be back on the court in Latvia for Team USA on Wednesday. The Americans (3-0) will take on Korea (0-3) in the fourth game of their group stage play.
