Tennessee outside linebackers coach Shelton Felton and inside linebackers coach Brian Niedermeyer have been fired with cause, the University of Tennessee announced on Monday afternoon.
The news comes in the wake of Jeremy Pruitt being fired for cause earlier in the afternoon, as reported by Blake Toppmeyer of the Knoxville News Sentinel. Toppmeyer also reported that UT Athletics Director Phillip Fulmer will retire. Tennessee is holding a press conference at 3 p.m. ET to discuss leadership changes.
Felton was in his season as UT’s outside linebackers coach. He returned to Rocky Top last offseason after spending one year as the outside linebackers and defensive line coach at Akron. Felton was a quality control analyst for Tennessee during Pruitt’s first season as head coach in 2018.
Niedermeyer just finished his third season as an assistant on Pruitt’s staff. He served as the tight ends coach in 2018 and 2019 before moving to the defensive side of the ball this past offseason. Niedermeyer was named the National Recruiter of the Year by 247Sports and ESPN in 2019. He previously was a defensive graduate assistant working with linebackers under head coach Jeremy Pruitt at Georgia and Alabama, and he worked with linebackers at Miami (Fla.) in 2013.
