Vols quarterback signee Kaidon Salter led his Cedar Hill High School team to a 38-21 win over previously undefeated Tomball (Texas) Memorial High School in Texas’ Class 6A Division II Region 2 semifinals on Saturday afternoon.
It’s the first time Cedar Hill has moved on to the regional finals since 2014. Cedar Hill will now face Rockwall-Heath High School of Rockwall, Texas on Jan. 2 at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas. The winner will advance to the
Salter threw for 159 yards and a touchdown on 10-of-16 passing. He rushed for 228 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries in the midst of accounting for 387 total yards of offense and four total touchdowns. His three rushing touchdowns cam from 3, 10 and 67-yards out. His only touchdown pass was a 17-yarder.
The Tennessee signee will be an early enrollee. If Cedar Hill advances to the state championship game, however, he won’t arrive until after Jan. 16.
Salter signed with the Vols as the No. 46 overall player in the country according to 247Sports. He’s considered the No. 3 overall dual-threat quarterback in the country and the sixth-best player in the state of Texas.
He was the only quarterback Tennessee signed during the early signing period. The Vols currently have two quarterbacks on scholarship following the decisions of Jarrett Guarantano and J.T. Shrout to enter the transfer portal. True freshman Harrison Bailey and true sophomore Brian Maurer are the only quarterbacks currently on UT’s roster.
