Ravens vs. Steelers Game Preview

The marquee Thanksgiving Day game is between two of the most physical teams in football. The Pittsburgh Steelers feature one of the strongest defenses in the NFL. The Steelers is the top ranked defense in terms of points allowed, allowing just 17 points per game. Furthermore, the Ravens feature an extremely talented secondary. The Ravens are averaging 19.5 points allowed which is good for third in the NFL. This has led to a rather low total expected score in the mid 40s.

These two teams met on November 1st and the game was extremely competitive. The Ravens came into the game as slight favorites and led 17-7 at half. It seemed that the Ravens were having their way but the Steelers defense once again came up big. They forced Lamar Jackson to turn the ball over four times and pulled off the come-from-behind victory. The Ravens rushed for 265 yards against the Steelers and will look to continue that and turn it over less to end Thanksgiving with a flourish.

NFL Week 12 Injury Report

Baltimore Ravens

DT Brandon Williams ended up playing last week against the Titans and appears to be healthy. He should be out there against the Steelers.

DL Calais Campbell is now listed as out indefinitely. He was a huge addition to this defensive line prior to the season. He will not play against Pittsburgh and possibly beyond.

RB’s JK Dobbins and Mark Ingram will not play this week. They both have tested positive for COVID-19 so they will not be out there on Thanksgiving.

Pittsburgh Steelers

CB Joe Haden is one of the best signings that the Steelers have made in years. He was cut by the Browns and immediately signed by Pittsburgh where he has found a home. He is questionable for this week which is tough on a short week and the injury is mysteriously “undisclosed.”

WR Juju Smith-Schuester is just a piece of the most productive receiving corps in the NFL. He played last week so I would expect him to go. He is listed as questionable with a toe injury.

AFC North Standings After Week 7

  • Pittsburgh Steelers (10-0)
  • Cleveland Browns (7-3)
  • Baltimore Ravens (6-4)
  • Cincinnati Bengals (2-7-1)

Implied Winning Probability

Implied winning probability takes the theoretical odds of a given event and turns them literal percentages to show likelihood. In layman’s terms, odds can be turned into percent chances to win a bet. This is important to calculate when placing a bet because it takes your theoretical odds and puts it into a percentage perspective.

The Baltimore Ravens were favored in the first matchup four weeks ago. Fast forward to Thanksgiving and the Steelers are still undefeated and are large favorites to win. The Steelers are -225 on DraftKings Sportsbook. This would calculate to 69.23%. Conversely, the Ravens are +190 which would equal a 34.48% chance to win.

Sports Betting Trends

Underdogs have covered 9 out of 10 times in this rivalry

This is a rather shocking statistic, but the Ravens vs. The Steelers has seen the underdog cover at a shocking rate. Taking points is usually the best bet in these games.

Multiple Ravens test positive of COVID, line changes

The Ravens and Steelers were set on a field goal spread in this game. When Dobbins and Ingram tested positive the line shifted drastically. Dobbins and Ingram do not make the biggest difference for the Ravens so there might be some buyback here from bettors.

Lamar Jackson turnovers are the key to victory

The Ravens have lost three of their last four games. In those three losses, Lamar Jackson has averaged two turnovers per game. They beat a very solid Colts team where Lamar did not turn it over at all. He needs to hold on to the rock.

DraftKings Best Bet: Ravens +5 / Over 45
