Tennessee sophomore Kenney Solomon has switched from cornerback to wide receiver, he announced on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.

Solomon, who is in his second year with the program, signed with the Vols out of high school as a defensive back after he did play offense in high school at Socastee High School in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The 6-foot, 185-pound athlete has only seen action on special teams this season, playing in all five games. He made one tackle against then-ranked No. 3 Georgia on Oct. 10.

Solomon walked-on with the Vols out of high school and earned a scholarship last November. As a true freshman in 2019, Solomon appeared in 11 games as a reserve corner and on special teams. He recorded his first-career tackle in UT’s win over Mississippi State and made his Tennessee debut in the Vols’ win over Chattanooga, intercepting a pass in the endzone.

He starred on offense, defense and special teams at Socastee High School and scored six touchdowns in eight games in 2018, including an 85-yard punt return. Solomon had over 1,000 all-purpose yards on offense and two interceptions on defense in 2018. He totaled six interceptions as a junior in 2017.

Solomon finished runner-up at the South Carolina 5A State Track and Field Meet in the 100-meter dash (10.57) and the 200-meter dash (21.57).
