What we like:
You want to talk about an explosive athlete, then look no further than Terrence Lewis. He’s a legit five-star who can play multiple linebacker positions. I envision him possibly playing at inside linebacker for UT despite him being rated as an outside linebacker. He has long arms, already some good bulk on his frame, and he moves so well. He’s speedy and makes some violent tackles. He makes smart reads and can run sideline-to-sideline in coverage and in trying to stop run plays on the outside. I’m very impressed by his speed and ability to close on running backs.
Simply put, Lewis can do a little bit of everything as a linebacker. He can blitz, he can cover, he can pursue, and he can disrupt passing plays. He’s a premier athlete.
Places to improve:
Right now, the only thing I can really think to say Lewis needs to improve is adding more bulk to his body and getting some more weight on him. He won’t have a big impact in the SEC at just 200 pounds, but he has the frame to add more weight and still play athletically. I’m not too concerned about that. On the field, he has the athletic prowess and intelligence to make plays at any level.
Analysis:
Given how thin the Vols are at inside linebacker right now and moving forward, I see Terrence Lewis making an immediate impact at Tennessee as a freshman. I don’t know that he’ll start right away given that Henry To’o To’o and Quavaris Crouch will still be Vols, but Lewis will definitely have a role as a true freshman and should develop into a starter sooner rather than later.
