Vol Signees Dominate in Bowl Games

Two of Tennessee’s 2020 signees just put up very impressive performances in exhibition postseason games this weekend.

First off, four-star quarterback Harrison Bailey led his Marietta Blue Devils to a resounding 53-14 victory over Eastside Catholic in the opener of the GEICO State Champions Bowl Series. Bailey put up monster numbers in the game as well, tossing six touchdowns and 410 yards en route to the blowout victory.

Oh, and Bailey did all of that in the first half.

Bailey’s 410 yards and six scores all came in the first two quarters of play, and he sat out the rest of the game as the Blue Devils cruised to victory. The bowl victory capped off what was a record-setting senior season and high school career for Bailey. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound signal caller finished his senior season with 4,261 passing yards, 44 touchdowns, and nine interceptions while also running for three scores and catching a touchdown pass as well. He helped lead Marietta to their first state title since 1967. He finished in the top five in career passing yards in Georgia high school football history, placing only behind Trevor Lawrence, Deshaun Watson, and Jake Fromm.

Per the 247Sports Composite rankings, Bailey is the No. 124 overall prospect and No. 4 pro-style quarterback in the 2020 class. He signed with Tennessee this past Wednesday during the first day of the early signing period.

But Bailey wasn’t the only Vol signee who showed out this weekend.

Four-star wide receiver Jalin Hyatt also turned heads this weekend with an outstanding performance in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. The Shrine Bowl features the top senior football players from South Carolina going up against the top senior players from North Carolina, and Hyatt helped the South Carolina squad pick up a 28-17 victory over North Carolina.

The speedy UT signee finished the game with six catches for 197 yards and two touchdowns, earning MVP honors in the process. Hyatt showed off his blazing speed on a 72-yard touchdown reception, and he also caught a 23-yard score. Hyatt recorded catches of 46 and 43 yards, too.

Just like Bailey, Hyatt’s senior season was highly impressive, and it ended with a state title. That’s nothing new for Hyatt, though, as this year marked the fourth-straight state title for him and his high school, Dutch Fork.

Hyatt caught the game-winning touchdown in overtime for Dutch Fork in the state title game, and that play was the exclamation point on a record-setting senior season for the 6-foot, 165-pound speedster. As a senior, Hyatt brought down 66 receptions for 1,361 yards and 26 touchdowns. Hyatt caught a total of 57 touchdowns in three seasons with Dutch Fork and amassed over 3,500 receiving yards in that same span.

The lightning-fast receiver ran a laser-timed 4.31-second 40-yard dash earlier this year and followed that up with a 10.46-second 100-meter run for Dutch Fork’s track team.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Hyatt is the No. 321 overall prospect and No. 56 wide receiver in the 2020 class.

Just like Bailey, Hyatt signed with the Vols on the first day of the early signing period on Wednesday. He and Bailey made up part of Tennessee’s 21-man early signing class that ranks 15th nationally on 247Sports.
