Saturday was a big day for Tennessee athletics.

On the football field, the Vols were finally able to exact some revenge on in-state foe Vanderbilt, ending a three-game losing streak to the Commodores with a 28-10 victory. Tennessee rode the legs of freshman running back Eric Gray on his way to a historic performance, as he totaled 246 yards and broke Tennessee’s true freshman rushing record in the process.

In basketball, Tennessee’s men’s team bounced back after an ugly loss to Florida State on Friday night with a thrilling 72-69 victory over No. 20 VCU in the Emerald Coast Classic on Saturday while the football Vols were playing in the first half. Lamonte Turner nailed the game-winning three as time expired to propel the Vols to victory over the Rams, giving UT a strong resume-building win.

After the Vols’ victory over Vanderbilt in football, managing editor Nathanael Rutherford hosted the RTI Post-Game Reaction Show to discuss that win and Tennessee’s win in hoops as well. Other talking points in the post-game show were Eric Gray’s performance, Jauan Jennings stepping on a Vanderbilt player’s head, where Tennessee should go bowling, and more.
