According to a report, one of Tennessee’s wide receivers won’t be on the Vols’ roster for the 2019 season.

Per 247Sports, redshirt sophomore Maleik Gray will be transferring to Mississippi Gulf Community College for the 2019 season. The 6-foot-2, 198-pound receiver is the second Vol WR to transfer to a JUCO school this offseason. Latrell Williams also left UT’s roster earlier this year to attend a junior college in 2019.

Gray joined the Vols as a four-star recruit out of Lavergne High School in Tennessee. Gray was part of former head coach Butch Jones’ last signing class in the 2017 cycle.

During his time at Tennessee, Gray bounced around a couple different positions. He started out in the secondary before moving to wide receiver. He was tried again as a defensive back before going back to receiver this fall.

Gray appeared in two games as a true freshman in 2017 but redshirted last season and only appeared in the Vols’ contest against Charlotte.

With Gray’s departure, the Vols have nine scholarship receivers on their roster for the 2019 season.

Jeremy Pruitt will meet with the media on Monday at noon Eastern to discuss the start of Tennessee’s 2019 season. He will likely confirm the report of Gray’s transfer during his presser.
