Tennessee held their second scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday, and Marquez Callaway looks like he was the star of the day for the Vols.
The senior wide receiver has grabbed attention this offseason after wide receivers coach Tee Martin said Callaway ran a 4.4-second flat 40-yard dash over the summer, and he entered fall camp as one of the few undoubted starters on Tennessee’s roster. Fall camp has done nothing to take away from that, and Saturday’s scrimmage looked to be a big day for the Vols’ budding star.
Tennessee’s official Twitter account put out a video of some highlights from the Vols’ Saturday scrimmage, and Callaway was featured prominently in the clips. The video begins with a throw from quarterback Jarrett Guarantano to Callaway, and the senior receiver makes a nice snag to haul in the pass with a defender draped all over him. The video ends with another Callaway grab with a defensive back attempting to pull down his arm to prevent the catch, but Callaway prevailed and came down with the ball.
The video wasn’t the only thing that highlighted Callaway’s performance on Saturday, though.
Former Vol wide receiver and current Knoxville sports radio host Jayson Swain tweeted out that Callaway is “going to be a problem for opposing DBs” shortly after Saturday’s scrimmage ended.

And according to Jesse Simonton of Volquest, Callaway caught two touchdowns and had “big catches” along with junior receiver Josh Palmer.
Couple early scrimmage nuggets from insiders before Jeremy Pruitt meets with the media:
Marquez Callaway (2 TDs) and Josh Palmer had big catches. Ty Chandler with a pair of fumbles but ran well otherwise. Defense scored a couple TDs off turnovers.

Callaway enters the 2019 season as the Vols’ leading returning receiver over the last two seasons. He’s caught 61 passes for 998 yards and seven touchdowns in 23 games the last two seasons, including leading the team in receptions (37) and yards (592) last year.
Also included in the highlights from the Vols’ scrimmage on Saturday are what look like a few good runs from sophomore running back Jeremy Banks, a good grab by redshirt freshman receiver Cedric Tillman, a touchdown run by junior running back Ty Chandler, some shiftiness from freshman running back Eric Gray, a couple nice catches by redshirt senior receiver Jauan Jennings, and what looks like an interception by sophomore cornerback Alontae Taylor.
