McBride announced his decision to transfer out of Tennessee’s football program last week. The sophomore quarterback didn’t play for the Vols any in 2018, but he played in two games and made a start in 2017 as a true freshman.
Coming out of high school, McBride was rated as the No. 1,456 overall player and No. 29 dual-threat quarterback in the 2017 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. McBride had been committed to Memphis for months before Tennessee came in late and started recruiting him harder.
On December 13th, McBride announced his flip from Memphis to Tennessee, and he signed with the Vols as part of their 2017 class.
As a true freshman, McBride was called upon in Tennessee’s match-up with Southern Miss after redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano was knocked out of the game due to an injury. McBride would then start the Vols’ next game against Missouri. He completed 16 of his 32 pass attempts for 139 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions while adding 63 yards on 14 carries.
As a Vol, McBride played in two games and totaled 152 passing yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions while completing 42.5 percent of his 40 pass attempts. He also ran for 70 yards on 18 attempts.
