Tennessee doesn’t have to worry about their lone 2019 quarterback commit looking elsewhere before he signs with UT. He made sure on Tuesday that there’s no question about where he intends to play in college.
Brian Maurer, the Vols’ only quarterback committed in the 2019 recruiting class, tweeted out on Tuesday afternoon that he is “shutting down” his recruitment and is “solid” with Tennessee.

Maurer, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound quarterback from Ocala, Florida, has received interest from other schools despite his commitment to Tennessee. Ohio State, Florida, and UCF have pursued the talented quarterback, but he let it be known on Tuesday that he won’t be looking around anywhere before he signs his National Letter of Intent. Maurer is projected to be an early enrollee and is expected to sign with the Vols during the early signing period, which beings on December 19th.

Tennessee offered Maurer during the summer this year as the Florida quarterback started to gain a lot of attention in summer camps. On June 27th, a week after the Vols offered him, Maurer announced his commitment to Tennessee.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Maurer is the No. 460 overall player and No. 17 pro-style quarterback in the 2019 cycle. The regular 247Sports rankings have him as the No. 437 overall prospect and the 12th-best pro-style quarterback in this class.
But during his senior season at West Port High School, Maurer out-performed his rankings.
Maurer set several school and county records during his senior season at West Port. He finished his senior year with 3,572 passing yards, 34 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while completing 65.4 percent of his 428 pass attempts according to MaxPreps. He also added 466 rushing yards and six scores on the ground on 80 carries, giving him a 5.8 yard per carry average. Maurer finished his high school career with 7,693 passing yards, 64 passing touchdowns, 905 rushing yards, and 14 rushing touchdowns.
The Florida signal caller showed immense growth from his junior year to his senior year of high school. Maurer improved his completion percentage from 2017 to 2018 by 7.9 points, averaged 106 more passing yards per game, and increased his passing touchdown total from 18 in 2017 to 34 in 2018 all while cutting down on his interception percentage as well, lowing it from a 3.35 percent rate as a junior to just a 2.8 percent rate as a senior.
Maurer entered his senior year coming off a strong summer showing on the camp circuit. He was invited to the Elite 11 Finals and Nike’s The Opening Finals and finished fifth among the 12 quarterbacks in attendance at The Opening.
