The worst-kept secret has finally been revealed. Tennessee has named their starting quarterback for their season-opener against No. 17 West Virginia.

Redshirt sophomore Jarrett Guarantano will start for the Vols to begin the 2018 season. He gets the starting nod over Stanford grad transfer Keller Chryst. This news came initially from Jamie Erdahl of CBS Sports.

Guarantano started six of the Vols’ last seven games of the 2017 season, and he was embroiled in a battle for the starting job all fall with Chryst. Sophomore Will McBride provided competition in the spring, and true freshman JT Shrout also added competition this fall.

Last season, Guarantano completed 86 of his 139 passes for 997 yards four touchdowns, and two interceptions in nine appearances and six starts last season. He also ran for a score.
