Tennessee continues to try and fill out their 2019 recruiting class in the hopes of bringing in some elite talent for the future. On Friday, UT’s coaches extended an offer to a talented and impressive power forward in the 2019 class.
Robbie Beran is a 6-foot-9, 210-pound forward from Richmond, Virginia. And on Friday, he tweeted out that he picked up an offer from Tennessee.

Beran is a four-star forward and is the No. 80 overall player in the country according to 247Sports. Those rankings also have him as the No. 17 power forward in the 2019 class. Along with Tennessee, he also holds offers from Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, Boston College, Dayton, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, and others. Stanford, among other schools, have also shown interest in him.
For being as highly-rated as he is, you might expect Beran to have more offers than he does. But he’s only recently been showing out against elite competition this summer after tearing it up in high school. His performance this summer has drawn the eye of several schools, including Tennessee, and it’s elevated his standing with more high major programs.
When I watch Beran’s film, I see a more polished version of what the Vols have in three-star forward Drew Pember of Bearden who committed to the Vols earlier this year. Beran is a force on defense and uses his athleticism and length to stop players from scoring in the paint. He moves very well for his size, and he fits that “stretch-four” mold perfectly. He has a smooth delivery on his jump shot, and he’s not necessarily a finesse style of player either. I’d like to see some more physicality from him, but he’s definitely not afraid to go down low, especially on defense.

As a junior for Collegiate School last season, Beran averaged around 15 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks per game.
Beran’s recruitment has started to heat up thanks to his great summer. He went from getting offers from teams in the A10 to suddenly drawing interest from schools in the Big 10, Big 12, ACC, and now in the SEC thanks to Tennessee. His recruitment will be interesting to track moving forward.
Tennessee’s offer to Beran comes on the same day that elite four-star forward C.J. Walker, one of the Vols’ top targets in the 2019 class, failed to include the Vols in his list of top schools. Walker posted his top 12 schools on Twitter, and he didn’t include the Vols despite Tennessee’s coaches making him a big priority this year. The offer to Beran likely isn’t in response to that because I think UT’s coaches do just like what they see in Beran and he’s a completely different type of player than Walker, but the exemption of Tennessee from Walker’s list is still worth pointing out.
The Vols currently have two commitments in their 2019 class. The aforementioned three-star forward Drew Pember from Bearden and three-star forward Davonte Gaines are Tennessee’s two commits in this current recruiting cycle.
