Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt said earlier this offseason that he wasn’t going to let recruiting services tell him and his staff “who is and isn’t a football player.” And he stuck true to those words by accepting the commitment of a somewhat overlooked but still very talented tight end in the 2019 class late Friday night.
Sean Brown is a three-star tight end out of Rome, Georgia in the 2019 class, and he tweeted out late Friday night that he is committing to Tennessee and wants to “make it for my momma.”

Brown picked up an offer from the Vols back on February 20th, and he’s visited Tennessee several times since then. He attended Junior Day festivities on March 3rd, unofficially visited campus twice at the end of March, and he unofficially visited during the Orange & White Game as well. He recently picked up offers from LSU and Ole Miss at the end of April and also holds offers from Auburn, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Maryland, NC State, and others.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Brown is just the No. 957 overall player and No. 37 tight end in the 2019 class. But his offer list and highlight film speak to a higher-rated player.
Brown is exactly what coaches want in a tight end. The 6-foot-5, 245 pound athlete bursts off the line of scrimmage and has very soft hands down the field. He’s also a chore to tackle and bounces off defenders with ease. He mauls players off the line of scrimmage when blocking for run plays and is extremely physical in every facet of his game. He’s also fairly quick, especially for his size.
Brown also played defensive end for Coosa High School last season, and he was effective there too. But his highest ceiling is definitely at tight end, and he could develop into a very solid player at that position.
Tennessee now has two tight ends committed in their 2019 class. Brown joins four-star Jackson Lowe as tight end commits in the Vols’ 2019 recruiting class. Lowe also plays in Georgia and is also listed at 6-foot-5 and over 240 pounds. The Vols are looking to play more two tight end sets in their new offense under Tyson Helton, and Lowe and Brown would be solid additions to the roster to bolster that position moving forward.
The Vols now have six commitments in their 2019 class. Brown joins Lowe, five-star offensive tackle Wanya Morris, four-star offensive guard Jackson Lampley, three-star defensive tackle LeDarrius Cox, and JUCO defensive tackle Darel Middleton.
