It’s typically very difficult for other schools to come in to the state of Louisiana and snatch highly-rated players away from LSU. The Tigers have had the state on lockdown for years. But that’s not going to stop Jeremy Pruitt and his coaching staff at Tennessee from trying.
The Vols extended a scholarship offer to four-star running back Tyrion Davis on Sunday night. Davis is one of the top players in the state of Louisiana in the 2019 class, and he’s been committed to LSU since June of last year. He also holds offers from Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma, USC, and others.

Davis is the No. 198 overall player in the 2019 class and the No. 16 running back according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s the 8th-rated player in the state of Louisiana in the class as well.
At 6-foot-1, 230 pounds, Davis is a big running back. But don’t let his size fool you; he’s also really fast. Davis’ highlight film shows him not only displaying his strength and overall play-making ability, but it showcases his speed and athleticism too. He’s effective as a running back, but he’s also a dynamic pass catcher out of the backfield and makes tons of plays off screen passes. He’s already fairly highly-rated, but his film makes him look like a prospect who’s rated even higher than what he is.
Getting Davis to sway from his LSU commitment will be tough. But that won’t deter Tennessee’s coaching staff. Even if history isn’t on their side.
LSU already has four commitments from the top 17 players in the state of Louisiana in the 2019 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. The Tigers currently have commitments from the top two players in the 2018 class as well, and they have commitments from nine of the top 16 players in the state in the 2018 class.
The Vols will need some running backs in their 2019 class, and expect Davis to be one of their top targets at the position if they can persuade him to give Tennessee a look.
