Tennessee is already a finalist for one of the top cornerbacks in the 2018 class. Now another highly-rated corner in this recruiting cycle has the Vols as one of his top schools with just over a week to go till National Signing Day.
Taiyon Palmer, a four-star cornerback out of Lawrenceville, Georgia, posted his final three schools on Twitter on Sunday night. And Tennessee was able to snag a spot along with Nebraska and North Carolina State. Palmer is the No. 278 overall player in the country and No. 29 cornerback in the 2018 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings

Palmer’s recruitment has seen a massive uptick in activity over the last two months. He decommitted from Duke on November 30th of 2017 after being committed to them for over a year, and he picked up nine scholarship offers in the month and a half after he decommitted. The Vols were one of the schools to offer him, as did Clemson, Alabama, Notre Dame, Arkansas, and Nebraska among others. The 6-foot, 178 pound corner also holds offers from Florida, Virginia Tech, Cal, Georgia Tech, and many others.
All three of Palmer’s finalists have received official visits from him over the last few weeks. Palmer visited Nebraska on January 12th then visited N.C. State on January 19th. He just visited Tennessee this past weekend, and the Vols have done enough since offering him on January 14th to ensure a spot among his final three schools.
Palmer is an explosive, physical athlete who played in every facet of the game for Archer High School. He was a cornerback, wide receiver, and returner on special teams his senior season. His highest ceiling is at cornerback, and it’s easy to see why when you look at his film. Palmer is very tough-minded and gritty, and his physicality comes through best when he’s on defense. He’s still a little raw overall, but he has great instincts and the kind of attitude you want from a 6-foot corner. And he’s a solid athlete.
The Vols need several corners in their 2018 class, and Palmer would be a big addition to their recruiting class if they can beat out N.C. State and Nebraska to land him.
