Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt and his new Tennessee coaching staff are making a push to add several cornerbacks in the 2018 recruiting class. And now they have a last-second visit lined up for a highly-rated corner in this cycle.
Taiyon Palmer is a four-star cornerback out of Lawrenceville, Georgia. The 247Sports Composite rankings have him rated as the No. 29 corner in the 2018 class and the 277th overall player in the cycle. The Vols offered him back on January 14th, and they’ve been recruiting him intently ever since.
Now he’s visiting Tennessee this weekend. And that’s good news for the Vols considering how heated his recruitment has become.
Palmer had been committed to Duke since September of 2016. But the talented corner decided to decommit from the Blue Devils on November 30th of 2017. And since then, he’s picked up a multitude of offers, including one from Tennessee.
Nebraska, Notre Dame, Clemson, Arkansas, Cal, Georgia Tech, Maryland, and Alabama (his most recent offer) have all extended scholarship offers to Palmer since his decommitment. And it’s easy to see why when you take a look at his film.
Palmer is an explosive, physical athlete who was used in every facet of the game for Archer High School. He played corner, wide receiver, and returner on special teams. His highest ceiling is at cornerback, and it’s easy to see why. Palmer is very tough-minded and gritty, and his physicality comes through best when he’s on defense. He’s still a little raw, but he has great instincts and the kind of attitude you want from a 6-foot corner.
Tennessee is pursuing many big names at the cornerback position in the 2018 class. And now you can add Palmer to the list as a legitimate target for the Vols in this cycle.
