Jeremy Pruitt and his staff at Tennessee have been trying to close out the Vols’ 2018 class with a strong finish. But they’ve also been hitting the recruiting trail hard for the next couple recruiting cycles already, and they have some more good news on that front coming this month.
According to an interview he did with SEC Country, cornerback Sheridan Jones plans on visiting the Vols later this month. But Jones isn’t your typical cornerback; he was once part of the 2020 recruiting cycle. But as of this past week, he’s now reclassified into the 2019 class.

While he was in the 2020 class, Sheridan was one of the top corners in that cycle. And he anticipates being one of the top corners in the 2019 class as well.
“Reclassifying up to 2019 was the best decision for me because I have a minimal number of classes left to satisfy graduation requirements,” Jones said in the interview. “My grades are strong, and I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my life.
“I want to prove I’m the best overall in the country no matter the class.”
While the reclassified corner still hasn’t been ranked by the 247Sports Composite rankings, the regular 247Sports ratings have him as the No. 7 corner in the 2019 class and the No. 142 overall player.
The 6-foot, 165 pound corner out of Virginia Beach holds offers from over a dozen schools already, and he most recently picked up an offer from Clemson back on January 11th. He also holds offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Penn State, and others. The Vols, however, got in on his recruitment early. Butch Jones and his staff offered the rangy corner back before he was even a freshman in high school.
And that may pay off for Tennessee.
Jones plans to visit Tennessee after his unofficial visit to Clemson on January 20th. The Vols’ new staff appear to be just as interested in Jones as Tennessee’s old staff.
“I’m pretty much open right now,” Jones stated. “I want to see what’s coming due to the reclass. I want to narrow my list down late spring, early summer.”
Jones is a tough, physical corner who isn’t afraid to lay down a big hit. He also knows how to play press coverage, and he’ll mess with a receiver’s mind and disrupt his rhythm.
