The recruiting dead period in the 2018 class is finally over. During the dead period, Jeremy Pruitt and the coaches on his Tennessee staff were offering scholarships to many of the top prospects in the 2019 and 2020 classes. And that continued on Thursday as they extended an offer to an elite receiver in the 2019 cycle on Thursday night.
Jalen Curry, a four-star wide receiver out of Houston, Texas, picked up an offer from the Vols on Thursday night. Tennessee is one of over two dozen schools to have offered Curry already.

Curry is the No. 70 overall player in the 2019 class and No. 8 player in the state of Texas according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. They also have him rated as the 13th-best receiver in the 2019 cycle.
Curry has picked up a slew of SEC offers over the last month, and the Vols are just the latest to offer him. Texas A&M offered him on December 20th, and then Arkansas and Florida followed suit later that month. Curry had been committed to Florida State, but once they changed coaches and hired Jimbo Fisher, he decommitted.
As a junior this season, Curry posted some eye-popping numbers. He totaled 1,570 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns on 121 catches for St. Pius X. His quarterback at St. Pius X, Grant Gunnell, is a four-star who is currently committed to Texas A&M. And most of the crystal ball predictions on 247Sports have Curry following his QB to the Aggies.
His highlight film displays his athleticism and shows that he knows how to use his 6-foot-3 frame to get leverage against defenders. He knows how to high point a deep pass and has a good amount of speed to go along with his tall body.
The Vols currently only have one commitment in the 2019 class, but it’s still early in that cycle and Pruitt and his staff have just taken over. Expect to see the recruiting in the 2019 cycle heat up big time in February and March.
