The good news in recruiting just keeps on rolling in for the Vols.
Last week, one of the top linebackers in the 2018 class, J.J. Peterson, said that Tennessee was at the top of his list in his recruitment. And now another elite player in the 2018 class has said that the Vols have vaulted to the top of his list.
Olaijah Griffin, a four-star cornerback in the 2018 class, said in an interview on Saturday that the Vols are No. 1 on his list of teams right now. Griffin is listed as the 4th-ranked corner in the 2018 class and the No. 31 overall player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
In an interview with ScoopDuck, an Oregon Ducks affiliate site, Griffin was asked about his recruitment. And he said that Tennessee has supplanted several other teams as his favorite.
“Tennessee is recruiting me the hardest,” Griffin said in the interview. “They are at the top of my list right now. I have family over there, that’s where we’re originally from. I really like coach (Jeremy) Pruitt and what he is doing over there. I loved my official visit.”
Griffin, just like many other prospects, visited the Vols on December 15th. Pruitt extended a scholarship offer to the highly-rated corner on December 9th, and he and his staff have made him a priority ever since.
But the Vols aren’t the only team that’s on Griffin’s mind right now.
“I’m interested in Oregon,” Griffin stated. “I’ve been talking to them and Oklahoma a little bit. I’m not sure I’ll visit them in January, I’m already pretty well set with my officials.”
Right now, Griffin is set to visit USC, Florida, Auburn, and Michigan. The article on ScoopDuck states that Griffin is no longer committed to UCLA and that he “has moved on from the Bruins moving forward.” But his 247Sports profile still has him listed as a UCLA commit.
The 6-foot, 170 pound corner played both ways for Mission Viejo High School in California this past season, but he projects as a cornerback at the collegiate level. The Vols currently have no cornerbacks signed or committed in their 2018 class, but Pruitt and his staff are expected to target several corners in the final month of the 2018 recruiting cycle.
Griffin would be a massive get for the Vols in this class. Expect Pruitt and his staff to pull out a full-court press for Griffin down the stretch.
