The Vols needed to find a quarterback in their 2018 class after losing commitments from both of the signal-callers they had committed. And they got their prospect on Wednesday morning.

Former Cal commit J.T. Shrout tweeted out on Wednesday morning that he is signing with Tennessee and will be joining the Vols in the 2018 recruiting class. Shrout was committed to Cal back in June but announced late last night that he was decommitting from the Golden Bears.

Now less than 24 hours later, Shrout has given his signature to Tennessee.

Shrout is a three-star quarterback and is the No. 26 pro-style quarterback in the 2018 class according to 247Sports. As a senior, Shrout threw for 3,064 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions while completing 51 percent of his pass attempts.

Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports profiled Shrout back in the summer and said that scouts who attended the QB Collective said Shrout was the most polished prospect there. And that included quarterbacks like five-star Justin Fields and five-star 2019 quarterback J.T. Daniels.

Shrout’s highlight film shows a quarterback with a strong arm and solid mechanics. He’s also more athletic and quicker than you would expect. And at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, he has the frame to add more weight and muscle that he’ll need in order to make it through an SEC schedule.

Tennessee now has six signees in their 2018 class, and we have an updated list of who all is signing with the Vols during the early signing period.
