Cade Mays was once considered a “lock” for the Vols and was the crown jewel of the Vols’ 2018 recruiting class. Now Mays himself has said Tennessee won’t even be an option for him moving forward.
Mays, a five-star offensive lineman according to 247Sports, released his top three schools on Thursday night. And according to Luke Slabaugh of WBIR Sports in Knoxville, Mays has decided to permanently drop Tennessee from the mix. Clemson, Ohio State, and Georgia are his top schools moving forward.

Mays is an in-state legacy player as well and was the first player to commit to the Vols in the 2018 class. He committed to the Vols all the way back in 2015 before he even had a star rating by scouting services.
But back on November 7th, Mays announced he was decommitting from the Vols.
Many fans assumed that once Tennessee found a new head coach, things would change with Mays and his recruitment. But if Mays stays true to his word, the Vols are completely out of the picture for him now.
Tennessee’s current 2018 class has 15 commitments and is ranked No. 22 in the country according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
