At this point in Tennessee’s coaching search, it seems like everyone is chiming in on who the Vols should hire.

Now you can add former Florida and South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier to that list.

The Gators legend joined ESPNU radio on Thursday for an interview, and he discussed the opening in Knoxville. In his opinion, John Currie needs to call former national championship quarterback Tee Martin.

“I think they oughta hire Tee Martin,” Spurrier said. “That would unite the fan base again.”

Martin is currently the offensive coordinator at USC and has been at the school since 2012. But reports are that he’s still yet to receive a call from Currie and the UT athletic department about Tennessee’s vacant head coaching position.

Spurrie’s opinion echoes that of many Vol fans. There’s been a growing movement online from Vol fans in support of Martin as Tennessee’s next head coach. And with the clock still ticking closer to the start of the early signing period on December 20th, Martin is starting to look like a great option for the Vols.

  1. I’m actually glad that Doreren won’t be the Vol’s next coach-not a great fit. Tee Martin, to me, would be an excellent hire.
