Tennessee Adds a Walk-On Quarterback

Needing more depth at quarterback, Tennessee added one of the most prolific passers in the state from the 2016 season as a preferred walk-on shortly before National Signing Day.

Brandon Hines, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound signal caller from Independence (Tenn.) High School, announced his commitment to play for the Vols via Twitter on Tuesday afternoon.

Hines completed 216-of-379 passes for 3,574 yards, 40 touchdowns and 18 interceptions in 2016 for Independence, leading the Eagles to a 14-1 mark and an appearance in the state title game in 2016. A pair of his receivers – Kendrell Scurry and T.J. Sheffield – are committed to the Vols in the 2019 class.

The Vols current have four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster after the graduation of Joshua Dobbs: Quinten Dormady, Jarrett Guarantano, Sheriron Jones and early enrollee Will McBride.
