Vol legend Peyton Manning continued to show his devotion to the East Tennessee area today by announcing that he is launching a fund that will benefit the families of the U.S. Military servicemen who were killed during the tragic shooting in Chattanooga last week.
Manning began the Chattanooga Heroes Fund with an initial contribution of his own. If you would like to contribute, visit CFGC.org.
The intention of the fund is to alleviate short-term financial needs and provide help with what challenges families and individuals directly effected by the shooting may face in years to come.
This continues a habit Manning has formed of creating charities in the states in which he has resided at one time or another. He has other charitable organizations in Louisiana, Indiana, and Colorado in addition to Tennessee.
Manning made this statement about the tragedy and his decision to open a charity dedicated to helping the families of shooting victims:
“Our family has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the great city of Chattanooga, and it has a very special place in our hearts. But on July 16th, this strong, welcoming community was forever changed by the tragedy that unfolded.”
“The five servicemen who gave their lives, the police officer who risked his life in order to protect others, and the actions of many other first responders were truly heroic. We are proud to team up with the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga to establish the Chattanooga Heroes Fund honoring these heroes and helping to provide for the future of their families.”
