Former Tennessee pitcher Chase Dollander overcame an early hiccup to earn his first career win during his MLB debut for the Colorado Rockies on Sunday in Denver.
The former ninth overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft was called up on Friday for the Rockies’ series opener against the Athletics.
Dollander gave up a two-run home run to the fourth batter he faced, but ended the top of the first with a nice strikeout on A’s shortstop Jacob Wilson. That ended up being the first of six strikeouts for Dollander in his debut.

The former Vol pitched five innings for the Rockies on Sunday with four earned runs, six strikeouts, and one walk. Dollander heaved 49 strikes in 79 total pitches, helping Colorado find its second win on the season in nine games.
Dollander’s four earned runs came off a two-run homer in the first, an RBI single in the fourth, and a solo home run in the fifth.

Dollander wasn’t the only former Vol in play, though. Left fielder Jordan Beck checked into the game in the bottom of the eighth inning as a pinch runner and ended up scoring the Rockies’ eighth run on a Brenton Doyle RBI. Beck did not get an appearance at the plate after entering late in the game.
Chase Dollander picked up his first career MLB win during his debut on Sunday, a 12-5 win at home to improve the Rockies’ record to 2-9 on the year.
