Tennessee baseball turned in another strong week, winning all five of its games and doing so by a combined 71-13. The Vols won all five games by double-digits and run-ruled their opponents in all three games the run-rule was in effect.
Tony Vitello’s eighth Tennessee squad knocked off Radford and Xavier in midweek games before sweeping St. Bonaventure in its final non conference series of the season.
It was another notable week for Tennessee. The Vols hit three grand slams, tying a NCAA single-game record in their Tuesday night win over Radford. After adding another grand slam over the weekend, Tennessee has eight in just 16 games this season. The NCAA record for most grand slams in a single season is 14.
Tennessee made noise on the mound in its series opener on Friday night as five Volunteer pitchers combined to no-hit the Bonnies. It was the fourth combined no-hitter and the ninth total no-hitter in program history. Ace Liam Doyle did the bulk of the work, striking out 12 batters in 5.2 innings pitched while Tanner Franklin, Brandon Arvidson, Brayden May and Michael Sharman also recorded outs.
Life gets much more difficult for Tennessee this week. The Vols face West Georgia on Tuesday afternoon before opening up SEC play with a three-games series against Florida at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Florida is a consensus top 10 team and ranks No. 7 in the D1Baseball rankings this week.
With that, let’s take a look at where Tennessee baseball landed in this week’s rankings.
