Ohio State head coach Ryan Day joined the ESPN College GameDay set on Saturday morning before the Buckeyes host the Vols in the first round of the College Football Playoffs later in the day.
Early into his on-set interview with the College GameDay crew, ESPN host Pat McAfee asked Day about the potential of Tennessee fans traveling and causing some havoc inside The Shoe during the game. GameDay has been talking about the amount of Vol fans in Columbus for just GameDay alone on Saturday, meaning that the projected “invasion” of Columbus could be on its way to coming true.
Day believes there will be “some” Tennessee fans but has confidence that OSU fans will be “rocking” during the game.
“For the first time it’s a playoff game here,” Day said on the set as Vol fans sang Rocky Top in the background. “Ohio Stadium is going to be rocking tonight. We have great fans. It’s going to be really loud. There’s 105 (thousand) of them in there so, yeah, I’m sure there’s going to be some (Tennessee fans) that travel. Two great fanbases. But there’s going to be a lot of scarlet and we’re going to be loud tonight. It’s going to be an electric atmosphere.”
According to Ohio State Athletics, The Shoe has a capacity of 102,780 spectators. Ohio State is also calling on their fans for a Scarlet-Out for the game on Saturday.

There’s been a lot of talk this week about Tennessee fans making the six-hour trip from Knoxville up to Columbus for the game on Saturday. With Tennessee fans’ turnout to GameDay on Saturday, reports of a big orange wave heading north on Saturday morning, and the falling ticket prices throughout the week leading into the game, it seems more and more possible that Tennessee will have a group of fans in the stadium that are dead set on making an impact in the game.
Ohio Stadium certainly will be electric on Saturday night. Whether it’s Ohio State fans looking to defend their home turf or Tennessee fans looking to conquer new land, the playoff game on Saturday night to close out the first round is going to be nothing less than a must-see matchup.
