Milton played quarterback for UCF for three seasons from 2016 to 2018 and played under then-UCF head coach Josh Heupel during the 2018 season.
“I’m beyond excited to be back in Orlando and part of the UCF family once again,” Milton said on Tuesday in a UCF release. “UCF holds such a special place in my heart, and to return as quarterbacks coach is truly an honor. I couldn’t be more excited to work alongside Coach Frost, who has been such a pivotal figure in my career. I can’t wait to help develop the next generation of Knights and build on the incredible tradition of success we’ve established here at UCF. Charge On!”
UCF announced on Sunday that Scott Frost would be returning to the program to take over the vacant head coaching spot after the departure of former head coach Gus Malzahn. Frost previously coached the Knights from 2016 to 2017 and led UCF to a perfect 13-0 season in 2017. Frost’s quarterback for those two seasons was McKenzie Milton.
Milton broke single-season program records for passing yards (4,037), passing touchdowns (37), passing efficiency (179.29) and passing yards per attempt (10.2) during the 2017 season.
Milton continued his success under Josh Heupel during the 2018 season. The Knights’ quarterback finished sixth in Heisman Trophy voting and led the Knights to another undefeated regular season at 11-0.
The former UCF quarterback has been a strong contributor to Tennessee’s quarterback room during his time as an offensive analyst with the Vols since spring 2023.
“McKenzie represents everything that is great about college football,” Heupel said when Milton was announced as a Tennessee staff addition in May 2023. “His perseverance, determination and leadership are attributes that made him successful as a player and will no doubt translate to him being an outstanding future coach. He’s always been a student of the game and understands the why behind what we do. We are thrilled to welcome McKenzie, Jany (wife) and Madden (son) to Rocky Top.”
McKenzie Milton will take over the quarterbacks coach role on Scott Frost’s UCF staff at just 27 years old.
