Tennessee Slot Receiver Plans To Enter The Transfer Portal

Tennessee receiver Chas Nimrod plans to enter the transfer portal after spending three years in the Volunteers program, On3’s Pete Nakos first reported.

Nimrod is Squirrel White’s backup in the slot where he caught 10 passes for 121 yards in the regular season. The redshirt sophomore receiver played in every game in the regular season playing 20-plus snaps in six games this season. His best game of the season came against Kentucky when he caught three passes for 45 yards.

However, drops and near missed opportunities largely defined Nimrod’s season. He failed to connect with Nico Iamaleava on a deep ball against Florida and then dropped a pass slightly behind him over the middle on Tennessee’s two-minute drive to end regulation against the Gators.

Nimrod’s worst drop of the season came against Kentucky when he dropped what would have been a 60-yard game sealing touchdown on a critical third down in the fourth quarter.

Despite what was a largely disappointing season, Nimrod’s departure before the College Football Playoffs is very notable because Squirrel White exited the Vanderbilt game with an injury and is banged up heading into the first round matchup against Ohio State.

If White is limited against the Buckeyes, freshman receiver Mike Matthews could slide into the slot and play a number of reps there.

A Bentonville, Arkansas native, Nimrod was also in Tennessee’s receiver rotation in 2023. In his three years in Knoxville, Nimrod has totaled 29 catches for 315 yards and a lone touchdown which was on a deep ball against Kentucky in 2023.

Nimrod was a member of the 2022 recruiting cycle where he ranked as a three-star recruit and the No. 562 player nationally according to the 247sports composite rankings.

Nimrod is the sixth Tennessee player to enter the transfer portal this month, joining receiver Kaleb Webb, running back Khalifa Keith, center Vysen Lang, linebacker Jalen Smith and cornerback Jordan Matthews. Smith and Nimrod are the only two players in that group with a consistent role on this Tennessee team.
