Tennessee offensive lineman Vysen Lang plans to enter the transfer portal when it officially opens next week, the interior offensive lineman announced on Tuesday.

“I want to start off by saying thank you to the coaching staff for giving a kid from Bama an opportunity to be apart of the Tennessee program,” Lang said in a statement. “I want to also thank my brothers in the locker room for bringing me in and making me feel welcomed.

“Would also like to thank the fans and people of Knoxville for being one of the best fanbases in the football. Rocky Top will always have a special place in my heart for everything it has done for me. With that being said I will be entering my name into the transfer portal with three years of eligibility left.”

Lang spent two seasons at Tennessee, redshirting and playing 23 snaps as a freshman in 2023 before playing 44 snaps in 2024 including 17 snaps in the Chattanooga game and 27 snaps in the Kent State game. The center earned a 53.5 PFF grade including a 75.7 pass block grade.

Tennessee football’s depth chart listed Lang as a co-backup at center with true freshman William Satterwhite behind All-SEC super senior Cooper Mays. Lang entering the portal makes Satterwhite the clear early favorite to start at center for Tennessee next season.

The Vols will likely add a few offensive linemen in the transfer portal this offseason and Lang leaving makes adding depth at the center spot a larger priority. Austin Gentle, the brother of Tennessee freshman Carson Gentle, entered the transfer portal last week after being one of the top centers in the FCS during his career at Harvard. Josh Heupel and his staff could pursue the older Gentle brother to add competition at the spot.

Coming out of high school, Lang ranked as a three-star recruit and the No. 709 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. A Pike Road native, Lang ranked as the No. 60 interior offensive lineman and the No. 31 player in the state of Alabama in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

Lang chose the Vols over Arkansas and Auburn coming out of high school. What type of interest he garners after two seasons with limited playing time at Tennessee is yet to be seen.
