Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes met with the media in the Bahamas after the Vols’ 64-42 win over Virginia in the opening round of the Baha Mar Hoops Tournament on Thursday night in Nassau.
The Vols barely led the Cavaliers at halftime, 22-21, thanks to a 7-0 surge from Virginia before the final first-half horn sounded. However, Barnes’ halftime pep talk must have been a doozy as Tennessee exploded to a 42-21 run in the second half of play to take the lopsided 22-point victory.
The No. 11 Vols now prepare to take on the No. 13 Baylor Bears at 9:30 p.m. ET in the tournament finals on Friday night.
Barnes spoke about several topics in his five-minute postgame press conference as he hit on Darlinstone Dubar’s debut for Tennessee, the tournament value a game and atmosphere like that gives to the team, his displeasure with the late-night, early-morning schedule, scouting Virginia before the game, and much more.
